Scientists believe the problem is caused by a build up of bacteria in the deepest recesses of a vehicles air con system. They conclude moisture collects in certain parts of the air con units providing a breeding ground for bugs.
Motorists are being urged to have their air con checked and serviced regularly by qualified technicians
